Heron & Hibiscus

$650.00

Having direct access to Oso Bay in Corpus Christi has been phenomenal as an artist. I am able to study from life directly. I became intrigued by these dinosaur-like birds and how they danced their heads in a drone-like motion to pierce their prey, and then gladly devour. With the help of nature journaling from life and John Muir Laws guidance from the internet - I was able to come up with an original composition from many drawings. I then took the drawing and made this painting with it. I artistically studied the anatomy of the bird and fell in love with its iconic spine and how it sharply curves between two vertebrae. This is the second in a series of bird paintings from the Corpus Christi Area. I hope to complete as many birds as I can.

This piece was juried into the South Texas Art League and hung in the Art Museum of Corpus Christi for the last quarter of 2025.
